The Scotties in St. Albert

The  St. Albert Curling Club is hosting the 2017 Jiffy Lube Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts. This weekend, twelve of Alberta's best women's curling teams will be competing to represent our province on the national level.

I was happy to help kick things off yesterday night by bringing greetings from the Province at the opening ceremonies and watching a few draws. It's wonderful to host such a great event here in St. Albert, and I am thankful for all of our community volunteers who made it possible.

Curling has a long history in St. Albert - the local club in fact dates back to 1949, when the first rink was built just outside the old Bruin Inn downtown. St. Albert has also hosted the Scotties before, back in 1984! The curling club is a great local way to get into the sport, and they have a very successful junior program.
